| Sign to the road heading to Sg. Perak Power Station |
Bersia dam is located in Gerik and the official name is Sultan Azlan Shah Bersia Power Station owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad. It is the centre power station that have the control for five other hyrdo power stations located along Sungai Perak. As how we first being introduced to all these power stations by the engineers in the presentation room, we have seen the single line diagram and the indicators from each of them in the control room too. The power stations are Cenderoh, Kenering, Piah Upper, Piah Lower, Temenggor and Pergau Power Station. Check the total generating power for each of those power stations in wikipedia.

We had a permission to visit the control room and have a look at the single line diagram of all connected power stations. We were then headed to Bersia dam, where the generating station and the switch yard are at the same location. The scenery are awesomely beautiful. You know it's a hydro power station, which is constructed in the middle of the nature beauty. That's the most special thing about hydro power station compared to other type of power station. Because of its beauty, students are very excited taking pictures rather than excited to know what is actually going on in the generating station haha! Actually there are some restriction and rule for photo taking, people are not allowed to take the pictures of the switch yard site. We are only allowed to take photo from the dam site. The securities accompanying us said this is a very private site.
This is not my first time being in a power plant as I have worked in Putrajaya Power Staion during my internship last year. But there are big differences between Bersia Power Station and Putrajaya Power Station. Firstly, Putrajaya Power Station is a gas turbine power station while Bersia is hydro power station. The physical structures, the operating system, the power plant components and the turbine itself are different. Secondly, I'm allowed to take photos as much as I want in Putrajaya Power Station. It's a process of learning for me. Probably Putrajaya Power Station is not that private and confidential site as Bersia Dam. LOL.
To be at site is much better for learning compared to be in the office. I summarized and compiled part of my experiences there in the presentation slide which I used it for my Oral Presentation in front of Ir. Faris, my supervisor from UTP. In the slides, there are pictures inside the power plant and it is about 10% of all the pictures I have. I feel save to share it online as I have never been warned by any engineers or staffs there. Hopefully it doesn't matter. Again, for me this is part of learning process. I hope in some way it can help those having their internship in Siemens or in power system field no matter what company. For all the knowledge and experiences I gained, I praise Allah, alhamdulillah, and I hope that the knowledge is blessed and stay with me forever so I can apply when it is needed. When is it, I'm not sure. Maybe in my kitchen? :P
